Already in 1924, SCI set up volunteer team to helpe the village Someo, in the italian speaking part of Switzerland, which was affected by a landslide. With more than 300 volunteers cleaning the devasted location this emergency action service was a success.

For the founder of SCI, Pierre Ceresole, the emergency actions done by international volunteers, would contributue to peace building by creating mutual trust.

In 2010 SCI celebrates its 90th anniversary. In 1920 the first workcamp was organised in the war damaged village Esnes near Verdun.

A campaign with the working title "Provoking Peace" is in preparation, which will set the focus on Pierre Ceresole the founder of SCI.

After the break-up of the socialist system at the end of the 1980s, our previous partners in Hungary had simply disappeared, and so SCI was left with hardly any opportunities of cooperation.

A new archives section for SCI activities in Belarus has been installed. Recently files were acquired, which give insight in the birth of an new SCI group in a post soviet republic.

From SCI  in Madrid I got the news, that a film director is interested in making a documentary relief work on SCI during the Spanish Civil War 1937-1939.
