Already in 1924, SCI set up volunteer team to helpe the village Someo, in the italian speaking part of Switzerland, which was affected by a landslide. With more than 300 volunteers cleaning the devasted location this emergency action service was a success.
For the founder of SCI, Pierre Ceresole, the emergency actions done by international volunteers, would contributue to peace building by creating mutual trust.

The SCI Archives launched this summer a photo competition for next year's (2010) 90th anniversary of the SCI. SCI volunteers were invited to make photos in workcamps, which are inspired by photos from historic SCI workcamps.
Several photos were submitted to the competition. The photo committe chose the contribution of Carmen Fiore as winner of this competition.

In 2010 SCI celebrates its 90th anniversary. In 1920 the first workcamp was organised in the war damaged village Esnes near Verdun.
A campaign with the working title "Provoking Peace" is in preparation, which will set the focus on Pierre Ceresole the founder of SCI.
